For the banana bread

  • 3 pieces ripe bananas, mashed The riper the bananas, the better.
  • 1/3 cup melted butter Can substitute oil for moisture.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 egg beaten Helps with binding.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda For leavening.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute gluten-free if needed.

Optional add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips For sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, toasted For crunch.
  • 1/2 cup coconut flakes For a tropical flavor.
  • 1/2 cup applesauce Can substitute for oil for added moisture.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon Adds warmth and flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas.
  • Stir in melted butter until well combined.
  • Mix in sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in.
  • Add flour last and stir until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Banana bread can be stored in a sealed bag for up to three days. For longer storage, slice and wrap tightly in plastic, or freeze slices for grab-and-go breakfasts.
